Waking Thoughts

When I woke up this morning, I was thinking about my vacation next week, which naturally led to thinking of death.  Right?  You always think you may never come back. It's one of my thoughts, anyway

Which led to serious thoughts about my memorial service.  Now, I already know where I'm going to buried.  I love New Jersey, but my roots are in Western Pennsylvania.  I'd always had it in my head that I would be buried there, in Oakland Cemetery, overlooking the mall where I hung out when I was a teenager.  I wanted to be where the action was.  When my mother died, I told my sister this, and she ended up buying a bunch of plots for us there.  So I want to be buried next to my mother.  Well...next to my siblings when they're buried next to my mother. Sorry, sibs.

I built my adult life in Central Jersey, so that's a good place for the memorial service.  I want a lot of people to be able to gather and deeply mourn and say great things.  The Unitarian Society, my former church, would be wonderful, but it's too small.  I think it fits about 125 people. People from the Unitarian Society, work, my former choir, neighbors,  I think there would be a lot of people.  Hell, if you added all my bad dates in East Brunswick, that would triple the number.  Although I don't think I'd care for the vibe.

So I was thinking maybe the Hilton?  I mean, my sister will probably pay for it anyway, so why not?  You could have both the service and the reception.  Except since it wouldn't be private event, probably a lot of hotel guests would show up.  On the other hand, if they cry, that wouldn't be so bad.

That's as far as I got, because the dogs were hungry.  Life: it's so intrusive.

Okay, here's a fun story. So, I went to the doctor today, and he apologized for keeping me waiting (I know, crazy, right? But that's not the story). He said he'd come to the office earlier and had already seen several patients when one of them let him know that there was a broken window in the back of the office.

He went outside to look, and sure enough, a large window had been broken; it looked as though someone had thrown a brick through it. But he was confused because the rest of the office was undisturbed, and the front door had been locked when he came in.
He went back inside, and went to the back office to investigate, opened the door to the office where the window was broken, and there - was a deer. The deer had leaped through the window and the blinds and was just standing there until he opened the door, at which point said deer ran out the front door.

Adding to that, my doctor said, two days ago, he'd hit an entirely different deer (or so we THINK....) with his car...except actually, he'd slammed on the brakes so hard, the deer had run away and the car was undamaged.

"But," he said, "I'm starting to feel as though I'm being stalked by deer."
Actually, my favorite part of the story is the thought of the burglar deer standing quietly in the back office for a few hours while the doctor saw several patients....

Online dating is beyond insane. Here's why:

The internet itself is a beautiful way of connecting all of us in a way that we never could connect before.  But, the downside is, it also connects all the nut jobs to the other nut jobs, strengthening their conviction that because there ARE other nut jobs, maybe they themselves aren't quite so nut jobby.

Also.

No matter how much you chat with someone or even talk on the phone, *nothing* prepares you for meeting in person.  It's still basically a total stranger.

AND.

I've had something like 6 dates in the last two months.  SIX!  Before the internet, you would be lucky if you MET one person in a three month period.  The connectivity now is beyond insane.  But I also have to guess that because you rarely met people back then, when you did, you at least *tried* to make it work out..  Now?  There's such a plethora of people to meet, you can disregard someone just because you don't like their username.

I know, right?
People have been telling me for years I should start a blog.  I love to write,  I don't mind pontificating, and I like attention.  :-)  So, yeah, maybe.   And yet, for now, I'm not telling anyone abut this...I just want to have a place to keep my random thoughts and random writings.  Of course, I could just as easily keep them in a Word document on my computer....hmm.
